“As a parent of Catholic school students, I have been able to see the fruits of a strong faith-based education in my own children. So, when I felt led back to teaching, there was no question that I wanted to be teaching in a Catholic school, and when the opportunity came up to teach at a school that I already loved, I was humbled and overjoyed.”
Melissa “Missy” Vuyk wanted to be a teacher ever since she and her sister spent their days as children making lesson plans and "teaching" a classroom full of baby dolls and teddy bears. Now teaching real-life students, Missy loves teaching middle school to help students and families navigate the roller coaster of adolescence and strives to bring joy, hope, and encouragement to those in her classroom.
Missy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, but moved to Texas when she was 10 years old. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education at Baylor University in 1990. She was also the recipient of the Secondary Education Student Teacher of the Year award by the Texas Directors of Field Experience for her student teaching experience in Connally Independent School District in Waco, Texas in 1991. She began her teaching career at Watkins Junior High School as a 7th-grade language arts teacher, and, after a break from teaching to begin her family, Missy decided to join the faculty at CtRCS.
Missy is a parishioner at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church and has taught Religious Education, hosted a Neighborhood Brunch, led a faith-sharing group, and has been involved with Teams of our Lady with her husband of 30+ years.
She currently lives in Towne Lake with her husband, Adrian, her high school sweetheart. They have five children and a dog named Sophie. Their oldest, Bethany, lives in San Antonio where she works as an event planner and is married to Alexander, a history and economics teacher at Antonian Catholic High School. Madeleine is a graduate student with Notre Dame's ECHO program and earning her Master's in Theology. Ian is the loudest & proudest member of the Class of '22 at Texas A&M University. Murphy is a freshman at the University of Texas at Dallas, and their youngest, Amelia, is right here in middle school at CtRCS.
Missy enjoys reading and has been in the same book club for more than 20 years. She loves to travel, and is especially fond of going to Walt Disney World and taking river cruises.
