“As a parent of Catholic school students, I have been able to see the fruits of a strong faith-based education in my own children. So, when I felt led back to teaching, there was no question that I wanted to be teaching in a Catholic school, and when the opportunity came up to teach at a school that I already loved, I was humbled and overjoyed.”
Melissa “Missy” Vuyk wanted to be a teacher ever since she and her sister spent their days as children making lesson plans and "teaching" a classroom full of baby dolls and teddy bears. Now teaching real-life students, Missy loves teaching middle school to help students and families navigate the roller coaster of adolescence and strives to bring joy, hope and encouragement to those in her classroom.
Missy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, but moved to Texas when she was 10 years old. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education at Baylor University in 1990. She was also the recipient of the Secondary Education Student Teacher of the Year award by the Texas Directors of Field Experience for her student teaching experience in Connally Independent School District in Waco, Texas in 1991. Her most recent teaching experience was at Watkins Junior High School as a 7th grade language arts teacher. After a break from teaching, Missy decided to join the faculty at CtRCS.
Missy is a parishioner at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church and has taught Religious Education, hosted a Neighborhood Brunch, led a faith-sharing group, and is involved with Teams of our Lady with her husband of 30 years.
She currently lives in Towne Lake with her husband, Adrian, her high school sweetheart. They have five children and a dog named, Sophie. Their oldest, Bethany, lives in San Antonio where she works as an event planner. Madeleine is a youth minister at St. Clare of Assisi in League City. Ian is the loudest & proudest member of the Class of '22 at Texas A&M University. Murphy is a senior at St. John XXIII in Katy, and their youngest, Amelia, is right here at CtRCS.
Missy enjoys reading and has been in the same book club for more than 20 years. She loves to travel, and is especially fond of going to Walt Disney World and taking river cruises.
