“Seeing the students grow spiritually, emotionally and mentally is a great joy to witness. When I am teaching a lesson or preparing a choral piece with the students, seeing them grow together is inspiring and deeply moving. Also, when I hear children sing, my little heart becomes very happy!”
Mary Ann Addis is following in her parents’ footsteps by becoming a teacher. She has lived in Texas her whole life and attended high school at Duchesne Academy. She received her bachelor’s from Texas A&M University in 2006. She received a master’s degree in counseling at the University of Houston in Clear Lake in 2015.
Mary Ann has her hands full teaching music for all grades, directing the school's choir, and providing lessons in musical instruments and voice. The school’s choir has developed an impressive reputation around the Archdiocese through various performances, workshops, and festivals. She is currently working on developing a future band and orchestra program at CtRCS through private lessons and grant proposals. Currently, she is working with St. Thomas High School and Incarnate Word Academy music directors to create an ensemble performance with the CtR students this school year.
During the summer, she works with and directs various children choral camps, sings professionally with local choir groups, and provides lessons to students. In addition to conducting and singing, she can play the piano, organ, guitar and cello. She enjoys the Houston Symphony, is a member of Schola at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, where she directs the Spanish Choir, and is the education liaison for all school performances and workshops at the Co-Cathedral.
She previously worked at Assumption Catholic School as the music, art, Spanish and P.E. teacher for Kindergarten to 8th grade, was the director of the Children’s Choir and the creator and director of the Ballroom Dance Competition. She also worked at St. Michael Catholic Church in Houston and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School. She has been selected to be part of the Catholic Music Teachers Coalition, and has given presentations in several workshops on fostering musical skills, music curriculum, and artistry in the classrooms and beyond.
Mary Ann currently lives in Houston, and spends time enjoying local restaurants with family and friends. She enjoys trying new recipes that bring out her Colombian and Lebanese roots. She will be singing with the Houston Symphony Chorus this season in the performance of Mahler and Rachmaninoff.
