"I feel so blessed to become a part of Christ the Redeemer school. I look forward to building relationships and meeting the needs of students, families and coworkers."
Leticia Peña always knew she wanted to be a teacher. Like many children, she would pretend to play school with her stuffed animals. Once her nephews came along, she found herself regularly helping them with their homework. She enjoyed finding ways to help them understand and it soon became clear she wanted to be a teacher.
Mrs. Peña graduated from the University of Texas Pan-American with a bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in early childhood education. Throughout her 17-year career, she has taught pre-k, kindergarten, first and second grade. As she starts her eighteenth year in education, she is excited to teach 4th grade. She has her certifications in grades EC-4 and is bilingually certified. She is also certified in Human Development and Family Studies, grades 8-12.
Mrs. Peña also received her masters in 2014 from Grand Canyon University. She specialized in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on reading. She also had the wonderful experience of being a university supervisor. However, while experiencing that and seeing student and teacher interactions, she missed the classroom and realized where her heart truly belonged.
Leticia and her husband, Juan have been married for 17 years. They live in Cypress with their three boys. Michael is a sophomore, Nathan is an 8th grader and Thomas will be in 4th grade this year. They also have two dogs, Astro (Dutch Shepherd) is 4 years old and Hannah (Boxer) is 10-years-old.
During her free time, Leticia enjoys reading and watching her sons play sports. She also likes traveling when she can.
