“I have a heart for teaching, especially middle school students. I think these students have a need to know that they have an important role in the community beyond doing things for themselves. Middle school students engage best when they are doing something to help the world.”
Leslie Haugh is looking forward to the opportunity to meld together her faith and her work experience in the Church as the middle school language arts teacher at Christ the Redeemer Catholic School.
Leslie was born in New Jersey and lived in a suburb of New York as a child. When she was in 7th grade, her parents moved her from New York to Houston, a transition in her life she will never forget. She said making this transition at such a young age as a middle school student has helped her better relate to teens making transitions during their middle school-age years.
She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Bellevue University and took graduate courses on education at University of St. Thomas-Houston in 2002. She received her Texas Educator Certificate in 2004. She grew up attending Prince of Peace Catholic Church and worked there in a couple of roles including an Associate Director of Youth Ministry and the Director of Social Services where she managed a food pantry and helped delegate emergency financial assistance. She has taught in the both the Houston and Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School Districts in the subjects of reading, English, speech communication and theatre arts. She most recently was the Program Director at Montessori School of Downtown.
Leslie lives in Cypress. Her daughter is currently studying to be a teacher at Sam Houston State University and her granddaughter is a student at CtRCS. She enjoys reading, scrapbooking and bicycling.
