“I have always taught primary grades and the most amazing thing is seeing a child learn something for the first time. I hold it very dear to my heart in the same way as when I saw my own personal children take their first steps.”
Jennifer Haas wanted to be a teacher like her mother since she was a little girl.
Jennifer is homegrown having been in Cypress her whole life. Jennifer and her high school sweetheart and husband, Derrick, are parishioners at CtR. Both have served as Eucharistic Ministers and Derrick has been a lector. Two of their children were even baptized at CtR. Jennifer received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Texas A&M University, where she was also a Kappa Delta Pi Honors Society Member. She also has a certification in English as a Second Language. She previously worked at St. Ambrose Catholic School as a Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher. She has also worked at Keith Elementary and Bang Elementary.
Jennifer and Derrick do a lot of charity work for the Texas Neurofibromatosis Foundation (NF), and their family has helped raise awareness to find a cure. They have sponsored many benefits and, this in 2013, hosted an event at MD Anderson supporting NF.
Jennifer still lives in Cypress. She and Derrick have three sons, Luke and William, who will attend CtR Catholic School, and Charlie, who will be in the Genesis Early Childhood Program at CtR. When she is not busy with the boys, she enjoys cooking, writing and reading. She also loves to dance – she was in ballet for 20 years.
