“When I decided to earn my Master's Degree, I chose Reading as my specialty area. It is extremely rewarding to help struggling readers become more confident and develop a love of reading.”
Gini Howell’s grandmother was a 4th grade teacher and her role model. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a teacher, just like her. Having attended Catholic school from Kindergarten through 12th grade, she said this environment feels like home and there is no place she’d rather teach.
Gini is originally from Shreveport, La. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Northeast Louisiana University in 1990. In her first teaching role, she represented her school as Teacher of the Year on the district and state levels. She later received her Master of Education as a Reading Specialist from Louisiana State University – Shreveport in 1995. She moved to Houston after she graduated and worked in various school districts. Most recently, she was a reading teacher at Farney Elementary School in Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District. Gini joined the CtRCS staff in 2016 and is the Learning Center Coordinator at CtRCS. As a reading specialist, her role is to get students excited about reading and writing while developing relationships that inspire students to be successful.
She currently lives in Fairfield with her husband and high school sweetheart, David. They have four children: Ben, 19; Lily, 15; Cole, 13; Kate, 11. She enjoys reading, dancing and sports. She especially loves cheering on the LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints and Houston Astros.
