Congratulations to first-grade teacher
Michelle Pye who received certification through the National Institute for STEM Education. Ms. Pye is the fourth teacher to earn this achievement among the group of educators at Christ the Redeemer Catholic School working toward the certification.
CtRCS continues to work on its certification as teachers and campus administration actively engage in professional development and training to add a nationally recognized certificate to their teaching credentials.
Ms. Pye said it was important to her to pursue this certification because she wanted to learn more about implementing STEM into her classroom.
"The biggest takeaway from the program was that we need to get the students to do most of the questioning, researching, and discovery in the classroom," she said, "and the teacher just needs to be more of a facilitator.
"Students have so many ideas and learn so much more when they take charge and have a voice in what is happening in the classroom."
She said she is looking forward to continuing to add STEM elements to her classroom by including more collaborative learning, hands-on discovery, and student-driven discussions.
