Congratulations to second-grade teacher
Ashley Wetwiski in receiving certification through the National Institute for STEM Education. Christ the Redeemer Catholic School continues to work on its certification as eight teachers, along with campus administration, actively engage in professional development and training to add a nationally recognized certificate to their teaching credentials.
Mrs. Wetwiski is the second teacher to complete this certification this year amidst the challenges of educating in a pandemic. For Wetwiski, the added work was necessary for her development as a teacher.
"Obtaining the STREAM certification was important to me because just like I challenge our Crusaders to 'grow' their brains, I believe I should too!" she said. "Having a better understanding of the world that we are preparing our learners for is essential - explorations that begin from a place of understanding the problem by showing empathy, then using and building critical thinking skills, developing collaboration and communication skills while working on innovative and creative solutions to apply to real-world situations."
She said she is looking forward to implementing additional learning opportunities in her classroom using the engineering design process and encouraging them to try new things and be okay with failing.
"This means letting our treasured Crusaders know that success isn't always measured by getting an answer correct the first time, but by the attitude and determination, one should put forth in discovering a potential solution," Wetwiski said.
