Christ the Redeemer Catholic School has been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in an announcement today in Washington, D.C.
CtR Catholic School (CtRCS) is one of only 356 schools in the nation—and one of 40 non-public schools—to receive this recognition of academic excellence this year. Having opened in 2014, winning this award is a notable achievement for a relatively young school. It highlights the dedication and exceptional achievement of the student body, whose performance in reading and mathematics ranks in the top 15 percent nationally.
“As principal, I am deeply honored that our school has been recognized with a National Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education,” said CtRCS Principal Dan Courtney.
“This prestigious award highlights our teachers, staff, students, and families' collective dedication to maintaining a high academic excellence standard within a nurturing, faith-centered environment. It’s a true celebration of the hard work and spirit that define our community, and I am grateful for everyone’s role in achieving this incredible milestone.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups, according to a news release. CtRCS was recognized for academic excellence.
Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year. Each nominated school submits a comprehensive application detailing its school culture, curriculum, assessments, instructional practices, professional development, leadership, family, and community involvement.
“From the first day 10 years ago when we opened our doors, Christ the Redeemer Catholic School has always sought to fulfill Jesus' words in Matthew 28:19-20: ‘Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations ... teaching them to carry out everything I have commanded you,’” said Rev. Sean P. Horrigan, Pastor.
“To be recognized as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School is a tremendous and humbling honor for our CtR community and a validation of the hard work and tireless spirit of every student, family, teacher, and administrator that has been part of our journey. As pastor, I'm grateful to all who have helped us achieve our goal and supported us along the way so that our school may beautifully fulfill – at the highest level – that mandate of Jesus given long ago.
As we look past in gratitude, we likewise look forward with great hope to build upon this honor, striving always for excellence in academics and charity in the heart to form faithful disciples in action, word, and deed.”
CtR Catholic School has 477 students enrolled in this current academic year in grades Pre-K3 – 8th, with 54 faculty and administration. It is a ministry of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, serving families in northwest Houston and Cypress.
